Genesys Cloud CX vs Avaya: Infinity, Aura and the choices for Avaya customers
Avaya customers have more choices than ever: stay on Aura, extend it, move to Avaya Infinity, or move to another platform such as Genesys Cloud CX. This guide compares Genesys Cloud CX with Avaya's current platforms on what each vendor publishes, so an Avaya estate can weigh its options on facts rather than headlines.
In short
- Avaya Infinity runs one code base in the cloud, hybrid or on premises; Genesys Cloud CX is cloud only, in AWS regions including London.
- Avaya says Aura remains part of its future and IP Office is fully supported, so staying is a real option.
- Avaya documents workforce engagement through Verint or your own tools; Genesys includes native workforce engagement from CX 3.
- The decision usually turns on how much you want to change, where you need the platform to run, and your integration and AI plans.
01
The choices facing an Avaya contact centre
For years the question for Avaya customers was when, not whether, to leave Aura. Avaya's position today is more nuanced. It says it continues to modernise Aura, now at release 10.3, and that Aura remains part of the future rather than legacy, with customers able to extend it into digital, cloud and AI capabilities through Avaya Infinity. An April 2026 Avaya blog says IP Office remains a fully supported platform with active development. Staying with Avaya, in whole or in part, is therefore a real option rather than a holding position.
Avaya Infinity, announced in April 2025, is Avaya's platform for large enterprises: one Kubernetes-based code base that can run in the cloud, hybrid or on premises, with a phased path from Aura and its contact centre. Genesys Cloud CX is a cloud-only platform that many Avaya customers have moved to. QVCCS is a Genesys referral partner, not a reseller, and we have kept to what each vendor publishes. The cards below summarise each platform.
Genesys Cloud CX
Genesys's cloud contact centre platform, built from microservices on one code base, with voice and digital channels, routing, workforce engagement, AI and an open API, sold in four tiers from CX 1 to CX 4.
- Suited to
- Organisations from mid-sized to very large, including complex and regulated contact centres, that want one platform for channels, routing, workforce engagement and AI.
- Hosting
- Cloud only, in Genesys-run AWS regions including London, Dublin, Frankfurt and Zurich.
- Telephony
- Genesys Cloud Voice in many countries including the UK, or your own carrier through BYOC Cloud or BYOC Premises.
- Workforce engagement
- Native workforce management, quality and recording, included from CX 3 or added to lower tiers.
- AI
- Native bots, Virtual Agent, agentic virtual agents and Agent Copilot, most metered in AI Experience tokens.
Strengths
- Voice, digital, routing, workforce engagement and AI on one platform, with one agent workspace
- Choice of Genesys Cloud Voice or your own carriers, and AWS regions including London
- Open APIs, data actions and the AppFoundry marketplace for integrations
Worth checking
- Cloud only: there is no self-hosted edition, and premises telephony needs Edge appliances or hybrid media
- Workforce engagement is included from CX 3; lower tiers need add-ons
- Most AI features consume AI Experience tokens, so usage needs forecasting

Avaya Infinity
An enterprise customer experience platform that Avaya describes as an orchestration layer connecting data, AI, workflows and interactions, built on one Kubernetes-based code base that runs in the cloud, hybrid or on premises.
- Suited to
- Large, complex enterprises (Avaya cites 500 to 50,000 agents), especially existing Avaya Aura contact centre customers modernising in phases.
- Hosting
- Single-tenant by default on Azure, AWS or Google Cloud, or in customer data centres through Azure Local, AWS Outposts or Google Distributed Cloud.
- Telephony
- Bring-your-own-carrier; an Avaya-supplied UK PSTN service for Infinity is not documented.
- Workforce engagement
- Through Verint or the customer's own workforce engagement tools.
- AI
- AI-agnostic: customers can bring their own models, and the platform supports the Model Context Protocol.
Strengths
- One code base for cloud, hybrid and on-premises deployment
- A documented, phased path from Avaya Aura and its contact centre
- Connectors for Salesforce, Dynamics 365, ServiceNow, Zendesk and Teams
Worth checking
- Workforce engagement is not native; it comes through Verint or your own tools
- Positioned for 500 agents and more, not for small contact centres
- Carriers are bring-your-own, and private deployments need you or a partner to run the infrastructure

The two platforms side by side
The table compares Genesys Cloud CX with Avaya Infinity, the platform Avaya positions for contact centres modernising from Aura. Where Avaya's pages did not confirm something, we say so. Both vendors are changing their platforms quickly, so treat the table as a starting point for your own questions.
| Aspect | Genesys Cloud CX | Avaya Infinity |
|---|---|---|
| Deployment | Cloud only, multi-tenant, on AWS | One code base for cloud, hybrid or on premises; single-tenant by default |
| Where it runs | Genesys-run AWS regions including London, Dublin, Frankfurt and Zurich | Azure, AWS or Google Cloud, or customer data centres through Azure Local, AWS Outposts or Google Distributed Cloud; UK regions not listed |
| Telephony | Genesys Cloud Voice, or your own carriers through BYOC Cloud or BYOC Premises | Bring your own carrier, with integration to existing Aura and Avaya voice systems |
| Digital channels | Web messaging, email, SMS and third-party messaging apps, included from CX 2 | Chat, SMS and email named, plus custom messaging and web and mobile SDKs |
| Workforce engagement | Native workforce management, quality and recording, included from CX 3 | Through Verint or your own workforce engagement tools |
| AI | Native bots, Virtual Agent, agentic virtual agents and Agent Copilot, metered in AI Experience tokens | AI-agnostic: bring your own models, with multi-model orchestration and Model Context Protocol support |
| Integrations | Open APIs, data actions and the AppFoundry marketplace | Connectors for Salesforce, Dynamics 365, ServiceNow, Zendesk and Teams, plus REST APIs and webhooks |
| Who it is for | Mid-sized to very large contact centres | Large enterprises: Avaya cites 500 to 50,000 agents |
03
Where each option is strongest
Avaya's strongest documented case is continuity and deployment choice. An organisation with a large, heavily integrated Aura estate can modernise in phases, keep its voice infrastructure and carriers, and run Infinity in its own data centre or private cloud where policy demands it. Infinity's AI-agnostic design suits organisations that have already chosen AI models or want to switch between them. For enterprises that cannot move to a multi-tenant public cloud, or want to move one step at a time, these are real advantages.
Genesys Cloud CX's strongest documented case is one cloud platform with native capabilities across the contact centre. Voice, digital, routing, workforce management, quality and AI are on one platform and one agent workspace, delivered as a service that Genesys updates continuously, without upgrade projects. Telephony can stay with your carriers through BYOC, and AWS regions include London. For organisations ready to leave on-premises infrastructure and its upgrade cycle behind, that removes a whole category of work.
Neither path is free of effort. Staying with Avaya still means modernising integrations and channels, and moving to any new platform means rebuilding flows, routing and reports. The right choice depends on how much change you want now, where the platform must run, and who will deliver it.
04
Questions that usually decide it
Avaya customers weighing these options tend to settle the decision on the same practical questions. Put them to Avaya, to Genesys and to the partners proposing each, and ask for answers grounded in published documentation and in your own estate rather than in roadmap slides.
- Change: do you want to modernise in place, in phases, or move platform in one programme?
- Where it runs: must the platform run on premises or in a private cloud, or is a multi-tenant public cloud acceptable?
- Telephony: which carriers, numbers and SIP trunks must stay, and how will failover work?
- Workforce engagement: will you keep your current WFM and QM tools, or move to native capabilities?
- Integrations: which CTI, CRM and back-office integrations does your Aura estate depend on, and who will rebuild them?
- AI: will you bring your own models, or use the platform's own AI and its charging model?
- Support and upgrades: who will run, patch and upgrade the platform after go-live?
05
Moving from Avaya to Genesys Cloud CX
When an Avaya customer chooses Genesys Cloud CX, the move is a structured migration: discovery of vectors, VDNs, skills and integrations, a parity decision for each, carrier and number planning, and waves that keep service running. Some organisations start hybrid, keeping Avaya voice in place while agents move, which Genesys supports through its telephony options. Our Avaya to Genesys Cloud migration page describes the approach, and our case studies include Avaya contact centres we have moved to Genesys Cloud CX.
If you are weighing the options, QVCCS can help you test them against your own estate, working remotely unless agreed otherwise. Every delivery team member holds, or is completing, Genesys Cloud certification, and our leadership has worked in contact centre technology since 1984. We will say plainly if staying with Avaya, or another platform in our wider comparison, is the better fit for you.
Questions
Common questions
Is Avaya Aura being discontinued?
Not according to Avaya's own pages. Avaya says it continues to modernise Aura, with release 10.3 current, and that Aura remains part of the future rather than legacy, with Avaya Infinity extending it into digital, cloud and AI capabilities. We found no end-of-sale or end-of-support dates for Aura or IP Office on avaya.com when we checked.
What is Avaya Infinity?
Avaya Infinity, announced in April 2025, is Avaya's enterprise customer experience platform: one Kubernetes-based code base that runs in the cloud, hybrid or on premises, single-tenant by default. Avaya describes it as an orchestration layer for data, AI, workflows and interactions, with a phased migration path from Aura and connectors for Salesforce, Dynamics 365, ServiceNow, Zendesk and Teams.
Can we move to Genesys Cloud CX and keep our Avaya phones?
Often, for a period. Genesys Cloud CX can connect to existing carriers and premises telephony through BYOC options, so many organisations move contact centre agents first and keep Avaya for the wider business while they plan the rest. The exact design depends on your Avaya release, SIP trunks and network, which discovery confirms.
Which is better for a large enterprise, Avaya Infinity or Genesys Cloud CX?
It depends on where the platform must run and how much change you want. Avaya Infinity suits enterprises that need private or on-premises deployment, or a phased modernisation of Aura. Genesys Cloud CX suits enterprises ready for a multi-tenant cloud platform with native workforce engagement and AI. Both target large contact centres.
