Comparison guide
Genesys Cloud CX vs Webex Contact Center: a contact centre platform or a suite
Genesys Cloud CX and Webex Contact Center are both cloud contact centres for voice and digital channels, and both are common choices for organisations leaving Cisco UCCE. They come from different places: Genesys builds a contact centre platform, Cisco sells its contact centre as part of a collaboration suite. This guide compares them on what each vendor publishes.
In short
- Webex Contact Center is Cisco's multi-tenant cloud contact centre; Webex Contact Center Enterprise is a separate, Cisco-managed service built on UCCE technology.
- Both document UK hosting: Genesys in the AWS London region among others, Cisco in a United Kingdom data centre, with a Germany data centre covering most EU countries.
- Cisco's own PSTN is documented for the US and Canada only; UK customers connect through Cloud Connected PSTN partners or their own carrier through Local Gateway.
- Webex workforce management, quality management and recording beyond one month are add-ons; Genesys Cloud CX includes workforce engagement from CX 3.
- The deciding question is usually whether the contact centre or the wider Cisco collaboration estate leads the choice.
01
Two cloud contact centres from different starting points
Genesys Cloud CX is a cloud-only contact centre platform: voice, digital channels, routing, workforce engagement and AI on one multi-tenant service, run by Genesys on AWS and updated continuously. Webex Contact Center is Cisco's cloud contact centre, sold under the Collaboration Flex 3.0 plan alongside Webex Calling and Webex Meetings, with Webex AI Agent and Cisco AI Assistant for self-service and agent support.
Cisco also offers Webex Contact Center Enterprise, a Cisco-managed service built on UCCE technology, for organisations that want to keep the UCCE model in the cloud. That gives Cisco customers three routes: upgrade UCCE on premises, move to Webex Contact Center Enterprise, or move to Webex Contact Center. The cards below summarise each platform from its vendor's own pages.
Genesys Cloud CX
Genesys's cloud contact centre platform, built from microservices on one code base, with voice and digital channels, routing, workforce engagement, AI and an open API, sold in four tiers from CX 1 to CX 4.
- Suited to
- Organisations from mid-sized to very large, including complex and regulated contact centres, that want one platform for channels, routing, workforce engagement and AI.
- Hosting
- Cloud only, in Genesys-run AWS regions including London, Dublin, Frankfurt and Zurich.
- Telephony
- Genesys Cloud Voice in many countries including the UK, or your own carrier through BYOC Cloud or BYOC Premises.
- Workforce engagement
- Native workforce management, quality and recording, included from CX 3 or added to lower tiers.
- AI
- Native bots, Virtual Agent, agentic virtual agents and Agent Copilot, most metered in AI Experience tokens.
Strengths
- Voice, digital, routing, workforce engagement and AI on one platform, with one agent workspace
- Choice of Genesys Cloud Voice or your own carriers, and AWS regions including London
- Open APIs, data actions and the AppFoundry marketplace for integrations
Worth checking
- Cloud only: there is no self-hosted edition, and premises telephony needs Edge appliances or hybrid media
- Workforce engagement is included from CX 3; lower tiers need add-ons
- Most AI features consume AI Experience tokens, so usage needs forecasting

The two platforms side by side
The table sets out what each vendor documents on the points buyers ask about most. Where a vendor's pages did not confirm something, we say so rather than fill the gap. Both vendors release new capabilities often, so treat the table as a starting point for your own questions, and check what is available in the data centre or region you plan to use.
| Aspect | Genesys Cloud CX | Webex Contact Center |
|---|---|---|
| Deployment | Cloud only, multi-tenant, run by Genesys on AWS | Multi-tenant cloud; Webex Contact Center Enterprise is a separate Cisco-managed service |

| Packaging | Four tiers, CX 1 to CX 4, with add-ons; named, concurrent and hourly licence models | Standard and Premium agents, on named or concurrent models; supervisors need Premium |
03
Where each platform is strongest
Webex Contact Center is strongest where Cisco already runs the business. Calling, meetings and the contact centre come from one vendor under one Flex plan, agents can use Webex devices and the Webex App, and a UCCE customer has two Cisco cloud routes to choose from. Cisco documents a UK data centre, and its integration pages name connectors for Salesforce, Microsoft, ServiceNow and Zendesk.
Genesys Cloud CX is strongest where the contact centre itself leads the decision. Workforce management, quality and recording are part of the platform from CX 3 rather than separate add-ons, routing and self-service are built in Architect on the same service, and telephony can come from Genesys or from your own carriers in the UK. Genesys was named a Leader in Gartner's 2025 Magic Quadrant for CCaaS for the eleventh consecutive year.
Both are mature, and neither is the right answer everywhere. We are Genesys Cloud CX specialists, so we say that plainly: the fair test is your own requirements, worked through with each vendor's documentation and a demonstration on your own call types.
04
Telephony in the UK
Telephony is where the two differ most for UK organisations. Cisco's own Webex Contact Center PSTN is documented for the contiguous US and Canada only, without international dialling. Elsewhere, Cisco documents Cloud Connected PSTN through certified partners in more than 65 countries, and Local Gateway, where your own or a partner-hosted session border controller connects your existing carrier, in more than 140 markets.
Genesys documents Genesys Cloud Voice, where Genesys supplies numbers and calling, and two bring-your-own-carrier options: BYOC Cloud, connecting your carrier's SIP trunks to Genesys in the cloud, and BYOC Premises, through Edge devices on your own site. For either platform, number porting lead times and the carrier contract usually set the pace of a migration more than the software does.
05
Webex Contact Center, Contact Center Enterprise and UCCE
For a Cisco UCCE estate, the choice is rarely just Genesys or Webex. Cisco's 12.5 and 12.6 releases reach the end of software maintenance releases on 31 December 2026 and the last date of support on 31 December 2027, so each route has a date attached. Webex Contact Center Enterprise keeps the UCCE model, with concurrent agents only and no SMS, WhatsApp or Messenger channels. Webex Contact Center is the newer multi-tenant service.
Moving to either Cisco cloud service still means rebuilding routing, IVR and reporting for the target platform, as a move to Genesys Cloud CX does. That makes the comparison fairer than it first appears: in each case the routing scripts, CVP applications, Finesse gadgets and reports need an inventory, a design and testing, and the effort sits in that work rather than in the choice of vendor.
06
Questions that usually decide between them
These questions tend to separate the two platforms quickly. Put the same questions to both vendors, ask to see each answer in the documentation as well as in a demonstration, and test the answers against your own call types, channels, sites and opening hours rather than a generic script.
- Which leads the decision: the contact centre, or keeping one collaboration vendor for calling and meetings?
- Telephony: which carrier, numbers and session border controllers will you use in the UK, and who supports them?
- Workforce engagement: which forecasting, scheduling, quality and recording features do you need, and are they included or add-ons?
- Channels: which agents need SMS, WhatsApp or Messenger, and which licence type does that require?
- AI: which features are included, how are they charged, and how will you forecast and govern usage?
- Integrations: which CRM and business systems must connect, and with which connector or API?
- Delivery and support: who will design, build, migrate and support the platform after go-live?
07
Moving from Cisco to Genesys Cloud CX
Most Cisco estates keep Cisco Unified Communications Manager running for the wider business, so the contact centre usually moves first. Genesys Cloud CX connects to CUCM over SIP trunks, calls move in both directions between cloud agents and colleagues on Cisco phones, and teams can move in waves while others stay on UCCE until their turn. Routing scripts and CVP applications become Architect flows, designed for how the business works today.
QVCCS leadership has worked in contact centre technology since 1984, and every delivery team member holds, or is completing, Genesys Cloud certification. Our Cisco end-of-support guide sets out the dates and the patching position in detail, our Cisco migration page describes the method, and we work remotely unless agreed otherwise.
Questions
Common questions
Is Webex Contact Center or Genesys Cloud CX better?
Neither is better everywhere. Webex Contact Center suits organisations that want calling, meetings and the contact centre from Cisco under one Flex plan. Genesys Cloud CX suits organisations where the contact centre leads, with workforce engagement included from CX 3 and routing, self-service and AI on one platform. Compare them on your own call types, channels and telephony, using each vendor's documentation.
What is the difference between Webex Contact Center and Webex Contact Center Enterprise?
Webex Contact Center is Cisco's multi-tenant cloud contact centre, with named or concurrent agents and digital channels including SMS, WhatsApp and Messenger for Premium agents. Webex Contact Center Enterprise is a Cisco-managed service built on UCCE technology, licensed on concurrent agents only and without SMS, WhatsApp or Messenger, according to Cisco's Flex 3.0 data sheet.
Do both platforms host data in the UK?
Yes. Genesys documents AWS regions for Genesys Cloud including London, Dublin, Frankfurt and Zurich. Cisco documents a United Kingdom data centre for Webex Contact Center, set by the country of operation chosen at set-up, with call recordings, reporting and configuration held in that data centre, and a Germany data centre serving most EU countries.
Can we keep our existing UK carrier?
With either platform, yes. Cisco's own contact centre PSTN covers only the US and Canada, so UK customers use a Cloud Connected PSTN partner or connect their existing carrier through Local Gateway. Genesys documents BYOC Cloud and BYOC Premises for bringing your own carrier, alongside Genesys Cloud Voice, where Genesys supplies the numbers and calling.
