Buyer's guide
Genesys Cloud CX cost explained: what drives the bill
Genesys publishes list prices for Genesys Cloud CX, but the figure on the pricing page is only the first line of the bill. What you actually pay depends on the tier each user needs, the licence model, the add-ons, AI usage, telephony and the work to get there. This guide explains each line, using Genesys's own published figures.
In short
- Genesys Cloud CX is licensed per user per month in four tiers, CX 1 to CX 4, with list prices published for an annual commitment.
- Named, concurrent and hourly interacting licences price the same tier differently; named and concurrent cannot be mixed in one organisation.
- Add-ons such as workforce engagement on CX 1 and CX 2, AI Experience tokens and telephony are charged on top.
- One-off costs, such as design, migration and testing, often matter as much as the licence line in the first year.
- QVCCS does not sell licences or take commission; we explain the structure and Genesys sets your commercial terms.
01
The lines that make up the bill
A Genesys Cloud CX bill has more lines than the pricing page suggests. The first is licences: a monthly charge for every user, set by the tier each user needs and the licence model you choose. Then come add-ons that extend a tier, AI Experience tokens for the AI features you use, and telephony, whether you buy calling from Genesys or bring your own carrier. Usage above the allowances in Genesys's fair use policy is charged as well.
Alongside the recurring lines sit one-off costs: discovery, design, build, migration, testing and training. Genesys states that its published prices are based on an annual commitment and that usage-based pricing may apply, so the list price is a starting point for a conversation with Genesys or your reseller rather than a quotation. The rest of this guide takes each line in turn, so you can see which ones your contact centre will actually use.
02
Licence tiers and the published list prices
Genesys publishes a list price for each tier and each licence model. CX 1 covers voice contact centres and associate users, CX 2 adds digital channels with quality and compliance, CX 3 adds full workforce engagement, and CX 4 adds the most AI, including extra AI Experience tokens for each agent. Tiers are assigned per user, so most organisations hold a mix, and the right mix usually matters more to the total than any discount.
The table shows Genesys's own list prices for the United States and the United Kingdom, as published on its pricing pages for an annual commitment. They exclude tax, discounts and any usage charges, and the BYOC Premises Edge charge applies only if you run Genesys Edge devices on your own sites. Our licence tiers guide sets out what each tier includes, feature by feature.

03
Named, concurrent or hourly: the model changes the bill
A named licence lets one named person use Genesys Cloud CX at any time. A concurrent licence covers the number of people using it at the same moment, so a hundred people who never work at the same time as more than fifty need fifty concurrent licences. Genesys charges a premium for concurrent licences to reflect that, and states that named and concurrent models cannot be mixed in one organisation.
Hourly interacting licences charge only for the time a user spends handling interactions, and Genesys positions them for associate and low-volume users, on any tier. Which model is cheaper depends on your shift patterns: a contact centre staffed evenly across the day often suits named licences, one with many part-time or seasonal staff may suit concurrent, and occasional users may suit hourly. Model it on your own rota data before you choose.
Whichever model you choose, the contract sets a committed quantity of licences for the term. Adding users is generally possible at any time, and usage above the committed quantity is billed at the rates in your contract, so it pays to set the commitment from real staffing data rather than from the peak you hope never to reach. Reviewing actual usage before each renewal keeps the commitment honest.
04
Add-ons, AI tokens and usage
Add-ons extend a tier for the users who need them. Genesys lists workforce engagement as an add-on for CX 1 and CX 2, digital channels for CX 1, and speech and text analytics for CX 1 and CX 2, alongside add-ons on every tier such as CX Cloud from Genesys and Salesforce, work automation and unified communications. Adding an add-on to a subset of users can cost less than moving everyone up a tier, and it is worth checking both ways.
AI features consume AI Experience tokens. Each organisation receives a free monthly allocation, CX 4 adds tokens for each agent, and tokens used beyond that are charged. Our AI tokens guide sets out the consumption rates and our voice AI cost calculator models them. Genesys's fair use policy also gives each licence monthly allocations of features such as storage and API use, and usage above those allocations is billed.

05
Telephony: Genesys Cloud Voice or your own carrier
Telephony is often the line that varies most between organisations. With Genesys Cloud Voice, Genesys supplies numbers and calling, and its pricing hub lists three kinds of charge: a one-time set-up fee for each number, a monthly fee for each number, and per-minute charges for calls, which differ by country and between landlines, mobiles and international destinations. Taxes and surcharges may apply.
With bring your own carrier, your existing carrier bills the calls under your own contract, through BYOC Cloud or through Edge devices on your premises with BYOC Premises. That keeps negotiated call rates and numbers, but leaves you managing a second supplier and, with BYOC Premises, the Edge hardware charge shown above. Compare the two on your real call volumes by destination, not on headline rates.
06
The one-off costs of getting there
The recurring lines are only part of the first-year cost. Moving to Genesys Cloud CX also means discovery, design, building routing and IVR flows, integrations with your CRM and other systems, number porting, testing, training and a period of hypercare after go-live. How much of that you need depends on the estate you are leaving, the integrations you rely on, and whether you move in one step or in waves.
QVCCS does not sell licences or take commission, so we have no stake in which tier or model you choose. QVCCS leadership has worked in contact centre technology since 1984, and every delivery team member holds, or is completing, Genesys Cloud certification. We help organisations size the licence mix against real usage before they sign, and we size the one-off work in discovery, on your own estate, rather than from a rule of thumb.
Questions
Common questions
How much does Genesys Cloud CX cost per agent?
Genesys publishes a monthly list price per user for each tier and licence model, shown in the table in this guide, for an annual commitment. What an agent really costs also depends on add-ons, AI token use, telephony and usage above allowances, and on the commercial terms you agree with Genesys or your reseller. Start from the tier each user group needs, then add the lines that apply.
Is concurrent licensing cheaper than named?
Not per licence: Genesys charges a premium for each concurrent licence. It can be cheaper overall when far fewer people work at the same time than the total number who need access, for example with part-time or shift-based teams. Genesys does not allow named and concurrent models to be mixed in one organisation, so model the choice on your own rota data first.
Does Genesys publish UK prices?
Yes. Genesys's UK pricing page shows list prices in pounds for each tier and licence model, for an annual commitment, and its pricing hub lists many add-on and usage charges in pounds as well. They are list prices before tax and discount; your actual terms come from Genesys or your reseller. QVCCS does not sell licences.
What costs are not on the Genesys pricing page?
The main ones are telephony call charges, which depend on your carrier or on Genesys Cloud Voice rates by country, AI token use beyond the included allocation, usage above fair use allocations, and the one-off work of designing, building, migrating and testing the contact centre. Those lines often decide whether a business case works, so include them from the start.
